The bulk of my publications have been by Phoenix Education and Five Senses, and linked to the Senior English text list text list since 2001. I have also written workshop booklets linked to the hundreds of Staff workshops I have run for Teacher Training Australia (TTA) since 2009. My favourite topics however have been my 'Exploring Genre and Style' series. My favourite genres have been Crime, Science and Gothic Fiction. I have also enjoyed writing about the The Romanticist period. The current Extension 1 syllabus is very different but a Preliminary Genre appropriation study still works well in developing the foundation analytical and writing skills needed. 'Dracula' remains a popular text to use as well as fusing the traditional tenets of the Fairy Tale genre with Holocaust literature such as 'Briar Rose'. Future publications will be linked to the current Syllabus.
Exploring Genre Series
"Horror" was the first publication in my 'Exploring Genre and Style series. It was published in 2007 and proved very popular with Senior students. It was designed to offer a broad cross-section of popular 'horror' genre novels, poems, films and media texts that were current when it was published. I have decided to write a follow-up 'Gothic Horror' Genre and style text that offers a more detailed analysis of Gothic classics such as 'Frankenstein' and 'Dracula'. Gothic appropriation across time and media will also be a focus, making it particularly useful for exploring how textual meaning is shaped within different mediums.
