With only a few days left, teachers are probably counting the hours of freedom before the deluge of information, and things that have to be done come pouring in. The first week will be a blur but at least this year we know what the changes to the curriculum are and what the next round of 2015 texts contains. I would like to use this site as a forum for teachers to share ideas, resources and problems. I will post resources that you might find useful but would also welcome feedback and suggestions for issues that you would like to address in the coming year.
Time will always be an issue for teachers and so resource sharing might be a bonus for everyone. To get the year started, I will focus on 'Belonging' given that it only has one year to go. Workshop experience with students and my own classes has shown how choosing sound 'related texts' is still problematic. I have therefore included some excellent media texts from 'Australian Story' that work well for AOS and 'Into the World' module. Documentaries are rich and accessible for students, with their own set of specific conventions that provide analysis focus. They can be far better than the use of a film or song lyrics which are not always handled well by students. I think they are worth looking at for use as an exemplar text in class or just posting site details on your school or class site for students to look at.
I am an experienced H.T. English, author and presenter. I offer School based student/staff workshops in 2018. My online and face to face tuition will be expanded to include Teacher SD mentoring and workshops.
