I am offering only 'The Tempest' with TTA this year for those Advanced teachers who have chosen it as their Shakespeare option.
Other AOS texts will be offered early 2015 based on teacher interest, so please indicate the ones that you would be interested in getting PD for.
Pleased to say that I have finished the 'Standard Modules and Electives' text. A massive 260 odd pages with many but obviously not all of the text options. It is now in the editing stage which allows me to begin the AOS at long last.
I have read or viewed all the texts on offer and must admit I think they could have given us a much richer selection. While I enjoyed going through them all, I thought the field could have been broader and conceptually richer. The texts themselves are not difficult but not necessarily engaging for students or easy for them to manipulate for AOS purposes. As always it will be interesting to see how the first exam paper reflects what was outlined in the text list.
I have not checked what the BOS may have posted online as yet but apart from the ETA interactive resource, there seems to be little resource material as yet that is explicitly focused on 'Discovery'.
With regards to the texts I have decided to focus on, at this point, I will include those that might the most popular and more importantly, most accessible to students. With only 14 options, the range is pretty narrow and while 'Go Back Where You Came From' might well be enjoyable for students, having to cover four hours of documentary might be challenging. Similarly, while 'Life of Pi' will probably be popular because it is visually spectacular, it could prove too difficult to handle as an AOS text. It does however, allow teachers to maintain current texts like 'The Shoe-Horn Sonata', Owen's poetry and 'The Story of Tom Brennan'.
I would really enjoy getting feedback with regards to what texts teachers want covered and how the sorts of content they might want included to best help them in the classroom. If this blog could become a forum platform it would help us all better prepare for Term IV and 2015. Post your comments or send me an email to kick-start the 'Discovery' Conversation.
Similarly, check out my pinterest 'Discovery' and other educational boards.
If you want to organise specific AOS workshops for students during Term IV, you will need to contact me ASAP for details on the text you would like covered.
