I really like Slessor's poetry and I think all of the poems on the list work well for 'Human Experiences'.
I have included contextual information and detailed analysis for each poem.
Each Common Module text also has a detailed introductory section that deals with the significance of 'story telling' as well as 'Metalanguage' resources.
This film also works really well for the Common Module. I have included detailed contextual background about the Miner's Strike as it was so pivotal to what Hall and Daldry wanted to convey. They knew firsthand about the social and economic impact and the scars left by Thatcher's 'economic rationalism' strategy. Her massive and rapid de-industrialisation programs destroyed not only the mining industry but an entire way of life and the communities that needed the mines to survive. The film effectively fuses so many experiences that students will find this a text that they can really engage with for the 'Common Module'.
For now, Texts can be bought from the site below.
The next two books for the 'Common Module' will be 'The Crucible' and '1984' and will be available mid next term. I will keep you updated.
